On 03/12/2020, ROBUR, represented by the companies CONGIV and TEC, was given the chance to present 2 cases during the HUAWEI and German Mittelstand Innovation Day. During a virtual event, colleagues from CONGIV demonstrated the possibilities of 5G and colleagues from TEC presented drone applications for sewer inspections.
Together with other partners, German Mittelstand e.V. and HUAWEI organized a wide range of activities as part of a (pandemic-compliant) virtual event for small and medium-sized German enterprises on 3 December 2020. ROBUR was also able to show how innovations are developed within the group and utilized for the digital and ecological transformation of customers.
Andreas Vollmer, CEO of the youngest ROBUR company CONGIV, along with CONGIV’s CTO, Nizar Zalila, showed how latency-free 5G networks have finally made it possible to transfer the intelligence of robots or autonomous vehicles to the Cloud. This relocation allows robots to be simplified, lowering costs and making vehicles easier to upgrade and, therefore, more future proof. Centralizing the “brains” also enables different vehicles to interact in a meaningful way for the first time and forms a basis for autonomous units to perform jointly coordinated actions.
Subsequently, Jens Goebel, project manager at TEC, presented ROBUR’s own version of a sewer inspection drone. The drones are constructed with collision protection and dedicated radio links to inspect sections of sewer up to 10 times faster. Furthermore, public utility companies no longer have to expose their employees to the usual dangers underground. Using AI, the image data obtained in this way is then analyzed and processed for the purpose of maintenance and repair. The drones are still currently controlled by pilots. However, once the necessary sensor technology becomes even smaller and lighter, it will be possible for drones to conduct these tasks autonomously, controlled by AI. The colleagues at TEC are already working on this.
Both examples showcase ROBUR’s innovative strength. As Nizar Zalila from CONGIV said: “Innovation is the combination of a child’s imagination, a business idea and an engineer’s ability in order to better fulfil a need, to make life easier, or to create and capitalize on demand”.
Or, as summarized by Jens Goebel from TEC: “When a crazy idea becomes real, works well and the client thanks you enthusiastically for the solution – that is innovation”.
ROBUR provides exactly the right mixture and environment of specialists, engineers and ideas to facilitate the digital transformation and ecological transition of industry for the benefit of future generations.
