On time and with satisfied clients: Renovation of the oNT plant in Schwarzheide in collaboration with IMO
When a project will require a total of around 100,000 workhours, urgently needs to be completed on time within less than 10 weeks and 2 attempts by competitors have already failed, facing this challenge would give anybody good reason to be a little nervous. Usually. However, for colleagues at the ROBUR company IMO, the challenge itself was the ideal motivation to take on and complete the task with their usual level of professionalism.
The renovation of BASF’s ortho-nitrotoluene (oNT) installation in Schwarzheide, Germany had already been in the works for several years. However, 2 competitors of the colleagues at IMO had previously failed to complete this project due to the huge complexity of coordination, parallel projects, project dependencies and a multitude of problems. This is exactly the kind of challenge that IMO is eager to take on. And thanks to intensive preparation, the experience of IMO experts and their extraordinary commitment, even the Corona pandemic and the associated restrictions did not hinder their successful completion of the project. As a result, the client was able to restart the production reactors punctually on 31 July 2020.
IMO not only played a major role in project preparation, coordination and management, and in interface management for corrosion protection, insulation and scaffolding construction, their 100 experts also contributed the greatest number of hours to the project. Their tasks included the following:
Inserting and removing shut-off plates
Disassembling, reassembling and installing valves
Disassembling, manufacturing, assembling and pressure-testing 312 pipelines made of stainless steel and carbon steel
Manufacturing and assembling double-walled, stainless steel pipelines
Disassembling, reassembling and installing 930 PLT devices
In addition, IMO also assisted with commissioning and technical documentation and was responsible for non-destructive testing and scaffolding construction. This project required the entirety of IMO’s bandwidth and faced additional challenges due to the Corona pandemic. The dedication of all colleagues, even young colleagues who were involved in a project of this kind for the first time, made successful completion possible and proved that IMO does not shy away from a challenge and is able to react flexibly and confidently in any situation.
