Robots are no longer the stuff of rocket science and are penetrating into more and more areas – accompanied by excellent system integrators such as SMART ROBOTICS AUSTRIA
The use of robots always makes sense where relatively simple, monotonous tasks no longer need to be done by humans or where they need to be supported in their work. This “support” provided to humans is called human-machine collaboration, for which ESCAD’s subsidiary SMART ROBOTICS AUSTRIA GmbH, based at Mondsee in Austria, is a renowned specialist. Here, they assemble modular and flexible robot systems from a plethora of existing and specially developed components – much like Lego – and equip them with the appropriate control system.
It is most likely just a coincidence that one of the main suppliers for these components is a company from Denmark, just like Lego: Universal Robots. This is where the so-called CoBots are developed and manufactured, which are very safe and especially well suited for collaborative use with humans. They require relatively little space and do not need the usual protective fencing.
Universal Robots offers a complete software and hardware kit for customised robotic expansion, the so-called UR+ Ecosystem: from many different sensors or even camera systems through to the logiBot mobile robot developed by ESCAD. All components are coordinated with each other according to the plug’n’play principle.
Such CoBots are planned, projected and implemented by specialists such as SMART ROBOTICS AUSTRIA, a company that was only founded in 2018. They do this so successfully that they have now been awarded the title of “Best Performing Certified System Integrator” by Universal Robots.
TRUMPF is one of the largest customers and a really successful example of the use of such smart CoBots is the TruArc Weld 1000 light welding robot, which is now used all over the world.
Frank Schimak, Managing Director of SMART ROBOTICS AUSTRIA, has no doubt that the use of such systems is only just getting started. “A modular system with sophisticated components, combined with smart software making programming for specific use super easy, will allow CoBots to be used economically in more and more areas, right down to the smallest craft businesses.” He is looking forward to many more exciting projects in a wide range of industries together with his colleagues.
