Dresden's new tram is coming in 2021. But you can already see and touch it.
Who wants to buy a pig in a poke? Exactly. That is why the tradition-steeped railway technology group Bombardier Transportation had a scale model of the new Dresden tram built by the specialists from ROBUR Prototyping & Materials GmbH.
The model was required to check and validate the ergonomics of the driver’s seat, passenger comfort and accessibility for people with reduced mobility. It represents the front part of the tram including the driver’s cab and up to the first boarding area. The ROBUR PROTOTYPING team recreated everything faithfully and in detail in just 5 months and on time for an exhibition at the Dresden Transport Museum starting in January 2020: seats, lighting, handrails, displays, controls, doors and windows – but made of materials such as GRP and wood. Hand in hand and in close coordination with the operator of Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe and the manufacturer Bombardier. The full-size mockup is an impressive, detailed representation of the high-quality exterior and interior and was also well received by the population. Production of the new tram was given the go-ahead in March 2020 and the first of a total of 30 light rail vehicles is scheduled to go into operation in 2021.
We congratulate ROBUR PROTOTYPING on this successful, swift and impressive project.
