Process quality is a key success factor for almost all businesses. And facts make it possible to optimise processes. APE Engineering GmbH has been developing its ATIS software since 2014 to deal with just this issue. It records operating data, production data and machine data. It evaluates the data and uses it to generate facts that can be employed to sustainably refine processes.
ATIS could be described as an insight and overview tool. An instrument that effectively smooths the user’s way from production data to production facts. ATIS filters the relevant information from the flood of data and visualises it in meaningful diagrams. In this way, trends are identified at an early stage, sources and causes of errors are diagnosed, and potential for improvement is identified.
ATIS was born in 2014 as an engineering project in the water sector. The solution was impressive and it is now used by many other customers in the fields of water/wastewater, energy, mechanical engineering, plant engineering and the processing and manufacturing industries. Its popularity is also thanks to consistent further development incorporating good ideas and specific practical requirements from customers.
APE has planned a further ATIS release in 2020, with a number of new features in the software. Two are briefly mentioned here:
Artificial Intelligence (AI) makes analyses more extensive and faster, alarm evaluations are easier and forecasts for process optimisation are more targeted.
Mobile data entry makes importing manual data faster and more convenient.
The latest release retains the greatly appreciated easy operation and resulting minimal training requirements, the groundbreaking visualisations, simple installation, easy system maintenance and the flexible and user-oriented license model.
Practical application scenarios
At Cordenka GmbH & Co. KG, a leading global manufacturer of industrial rayon yarn, the process of changing the spools has been optimized.
The yarn is wound on approx. 3000 twin spools and the bobbins are changed manually. The yarn length must be absolutely uniform, so the decisive factor is the exact moment at which the spool is changed.
Using ATIS, employees are automatically notified via mobile devices when a spolls needs to be changed. All data and processes are documented and visualised for the purpose of more efficient planning and quality assurance. To simplify the changeover, old and new technologies were initially operated in parallel.
As a result, machine service lives have been optimised and several stress factors for the employees have been eliminated.
Aschaffenburger Versorgungs-GmbH provides approx. 130,000 people with drinking water and has a fully automated treatment process: they treat around 25,000 m³ of water every day.
Thanks to the newly installed ATIS software, the water utility can now monitor all parts of the system regardless of the manufacturer, quickly generate fault diagnostics and log and visualise all relevant information.
